Our vision is to connect with our surroundings, to bring nature into our hotel and to have as little impact on the environment as possible.
WE CALL OUR STYLE ‘ALPINE MINIMALISM’, WHICH EMPHASISES SIMPLICITY THROUGH CLEAN LINES, ORGANIC, NATURAL INTERIORS THAT DO NOT OVERSHADOW THE NATURAL BEAUTY AROUND US AND TO FOSTER WHAT WE CALL THE ALPINE CHARM.
All the stone used in the hotel is from some of the oldest Slovene quarries that exist from Austro-Hungarian days, where they still chisel the stone by hand and is the same limestone used in imperial buildings in Vienna, Budapest, and Trieste. It is this limestone that the Alps are made of and it blends in perfectly into the surrounding environment.
Gray limestone used at the hotel with various organic life forms that are visible to the naked eye, was trapped inside when this rock formed in the depths of the sea. Some 94 million years ago various geological events triggered tectonic plates to shift and formed the mountains we today call the Alps.
For our facade we chose larch wood, which is valued for its tough, waterproof and durable qualities – and perfect for the Alpine environment where winter seasons tend to be harsh and shoulder seasons wet.
These trees are valued for their fast growth and disease resistance, and they produce top quality knot-free timber that is easy to process. Our facade has only been treated by burning the outer layer and then hand brushed, giving it that protective physical coating which means that it will never have to be painted. The more time passes this facade will develop its own hue and texture, aging with the structure and giving it that special hallmark. Conveniently, the local regulations require a semi-wooden facade that also needs to be dark in color.
We encourage you to take a hike in the surrounding woods and look for these gorgeous trees. They are especially beautiful in the fall, when they paint the whole area in yellow.
In European folklore, larch was said to protect against enchantment. Wearing and burning of larch was thought to protect against evil spirits, which is something that should give you a special peace of mind while staying with us.
Everything we do at Milka is with consideration to the environment, the people, and everyone involved. We believe luxury can be achieved by being in beautiful nature and by having a few selected items that speak quality for themselves. We believe in the concept less is more and to be truly satisfied less but good is the way to go.
