Activities around Kranjska Gora

Active vacation has been a preferred way of traveling for a while now and everyone at Milka embraces activities wholesomely.

Activities around Kranjska Gora

What is the best way to see and experience a new place if not by foot, on a bike, or by doing an activity that the area is known for and is fun at the same time.

Our area is stunningly beautiful any time of the year and given that we look into the only national park in Slovenia, we are right at the forefront of outdoor alpine fun.

Skiing & snowboarding

Kranjska Gora is the oldest ski resort in Slovenia, and in winter it offers 20km of ski slopes and 17 lifts. There are also many well groomed nordic skiing runs and both skiing and running are possible in the night time as well. Some of the ‘newer’ winter activities also involve snow shoeing, ice climbing and increasingly back country skiing. Southern Julian Alp plateau is perfect for those adrenaline seekers that are not intimidated by the inclination of our mountains and the c0uloirs that can be found on their search for fresh powder.

Hiking & alpinism

Here in Julian Alps there are many peaks over 2000m above sea level and 3 high plateaus  – Pokljuka, Mežakla and Jelovica – so the area is extremely popular amongst the hikers.

If you keep following the road up from Lake Jasna you will climb onto The Vršič Pass, which is with its 1,611 m (5,826 feet) the highest mountain road pass in Slovenia. It links the Sava and Soča valleys and is very popular with cyclists. It is also a natural geographical barrier between the littoral and alpine world and the difference when crossing from one to the other is stark.

Mountain biking & cycling

Juliana Bike Trail with its 7 stages that all together give you 290km in length and 8500m in elevation gain of mountain bike trails are just a tease of what is there to explore. And wait until you will cycle with your road bike on the old railroad tracks that have turned into cycling routes. Or 3 mountain passes in a day? See how we breed our Roglič’s and Pogačar’s into the shape they are in?

More to fuel your adrenaline

Just a few kilometres away from Jasna Lake you can find Planica center, known for the ski jumps, renamed into ski flights for all the impressive flying lengths achieved there. You can hike up the highest of the jumps and try the zipline on the way back down. Check out the museum and learn about the history of ski jumping that is so deeply rooted in the Slovene culture. Still haven’t had enough and you wish it was winter already? Try the indoor nordic skiing run. See now why we Slovenes are so enthusiastic about sports?

Ever tried swimming in an alpine lake? We got you covered! Climbing a Via Ferrata? Easy! White water rafting? White water kayaking? Paragliding? Parachute jumping? Soon you will understand why we have so many olympic medals per capita.
